Why a Book or Blogs on Rains?
Ever since July 26th of 2005 most people in Mumbai are a bit scared or a bit apprehensive about stepping out of their homes when it starts to rain down heavily. Statistics from popular newspapers like the Times of India and the Mid-Day reveal that Bombayites or Mumbaikars prefer being indoors during heavy rains rather than be outside or go to work, school, colleges, etc.

July 26th of 2005 was a big day in my life. It was the day I was about to open my first permanent centre for my coaching classes in Andheri on the Westside near the station. Obviously, there was no opening bash that night. Infact, for me it was a day of immense discovery as I learnt I had huge reserves of the wonderful power of intuition. I went home that day at exactly 2pm for no reason even though my staff told me to wait in the office. I came home, went to sleep and woke up at 5pm to discover we had no electricity, no lights, no phones working, no mobile network and no news about what was going on.

I went out that evening with my buddy Trinity walking along flooded roads in 7 Bungalows in Versova. It was only then that we realised that Mumbai was flooded as thousands of people walked along J.P. Road holding hands trying desperately to reach home. Trinity and me did not understand what the fuss was all about as we both found it quite enjoyable walking down J.P.Road that eventful evening. Well, 3 days later we discovered the damage that was caused by the worst floods that hit the Island of Mumbai in it's long history.

Inspite of what I saw, what I read and what I heard about that day in our wonderful city's history I decided that nothing in this world would change how much I loved the rains. I still remember those days I would run out onto my terrace in our building in Byculla aptly called "April Showers" and danced and jumped when the first rains poured down on the concrete. I still remember playing football on the beach as it poured down on the sands on Juhu Beach. I still remember the long drives on our bikes after guzzling down a hot cup of cutting chai and munching on the tasty wada pavs outside Mithibhai College. I still remember walking down foggy roads in Lonavla, Khandala and Matheran with my girlfriends. O! It seems just like yesterday. Well, maybe it was!

An Online Blog about the Rains in Mumbai, India and other parts of the world is something of a neccessity as people have got a completely wrong impression about the rains in Mumbai ever since July 26th of 2005. I decided to call it the "Book on Rains" rather than an online blog or diary because my book on the rainy season has several chapters, pictures and aspects to it. I felt it neccessary to call it a Book rather than a Blog because I am not welcoming comments below each post. It is my view about the rainy season, it is my research and it is my passion for the most beautiful season in India - The Monsoons!

Each page that follows has pictures with a short description below it. I hope that people from Mumbai and elsewhere in the world start loving the rains all over again. I sincerely wish that my students and my clients spread the link to this Book on Rains on their Orkut, Facebook, MySpace and Hi5 profiles so that almost everyone in Mumbai who has an internet connection visits this Book on Rains.
