Autumn Reverie

by Gina Ames

If you could capture love in a season,
which would it be?
I'd choose autumn for a specific reason,
it has a gold only lover's can see.

Sunlight swells and overflows onto the air
like warm kisses on your cheek,
like a face of a goddess, so fair,
and a bitterness somewhat sweet.

The world's forever wrapped in sentiment
or at least it seems
and when it leaves you'll lament
what cold the winter brings.

So hold your autumn reverie,
like a loved one against your chest;
see the gold that lovers see
and in it find your rest.
