My Son
Hush - cruel world - please hush.
for a few broken hours, lay dormant.
That I may sit here in such amazement
for it is my child that sleeps.
Stay clear of our lives for one night -
there will be time aplenty to claim him,
And grind him into any shape you will
but for now I beg you - please hush.
Let him be mine for this solitary night
while he is so tender- so frail.
Yet filling my heart with such wonder
everything else seems to pale.
Remain outside, looking in.
if you will pass silently by.
I fear all you hold for him,
on his first night, please don?t make him cry.
Let him know a peace, that is rightfully his,
before life?s storm does break,
And build in him a fortitude
before you return to take.
I watch as covers gently rise then fall
in time with the sound of his breathing,
With heart on my sleeve and a tear in my eye
for tonight cruel world - please hush.
