Memories

I turned off the warm water running over me in the shower
And opened the door
I stood there naked as the steam disappeared
Cold

I watched as the water dripped from the faucet
Running down into the drain
I thought about how all our good times
Were like the water
Flowing steady then dying in the drain
This saddened me more
A single tear was born in my eye
Rolling down my cheek
And, dying, fell from my chin

I've heard songs on the radio
And wonder
Why are they all about broken hearts?
Now I know
But I have yet to hear
About someone breaking their own.

Now as I sit here
Writing you
Feeling worse because I have not
Broken one heart
But two.
