Still Life
I painted a picture today
in soft watercolor
across a perfect spring sky.
As a collage of possibilities
emerged from the warm,
lazy pastels,
I reveled in my creation.
And the gentle wisps of clouds,
knowing no destination,
Admired my work
in their careless passing.
As the sun surrendered its rays
to the last bits of horizon,
the hue cast across my sky
offered a security.
And then...
...your smile...
And my masterpiece found motion.
As you completed the last details,
we shared in its brilliance
while the stars danced
to the touch
of your brush.
