Spirit Lady
This is not justone story but several that took place in my hometown, roughly oneof the most haunted places I've ever seen (and I've traveled.) Igrew up in this town and in the oldest section of the town soI've seen many things. I come from a psychic family with activedead relatives including my grandfather who still wanders aroundhis old house, often seen as a shadow by my aunt and uncle whonow live there, my grandmother who loves to bang around in thekitchen like she did in life (she's also the family's guardianangel), and my great aunt who recently died and let my mother andbrother know by rattling the front door of our house at the sametime as her death. The screen door was locked from the inside andno one was standing near the door when it happened. My parentshome is normally haunted by two known apparitions, one of atwenty-something man named Robert (we live in a college town,Oklahoma State University to be exact which is one of the oldestcolleges in the state, so he's probably an ex student), and awoman of unknown origin. Robert grew a fond attatchment to mybest friend in high school and used to hover over her whenevershe'd spend the night (much to her annoyance...he liked to pullhis own head off and make goofy faces.) Robert also loves tofreeze my feet by leaning on the foot of the bed and freeze mywhole body by lying under the bead and talking to me all night. He's a pleasant spirit, but when my friend Rob (funny, huh?)spent the night at my house, because he tends to repell spirits,Robert annoyed me all the next day, wondering who that odd manwas in my room that night. The woman keeps pretty quiet, scaringthe bejesus out of my best friend by appearing to her as shecrossed from my bedroom to the bathroom one night by standing inthe middle of the living room. There's an archway that leads intothe living room that you have to pass by to get from my bedroomto the bathroom and it looks cavernous at night. Emily camescreeching into the bathroom, stammering that she'd seen theghost of a woman. I assured her that the woman has never hurtanyone. She's a quiet spirit and stays in the living room most ofthe time, though at times she'll reach a hand through my closetdoor (my closet is connected by a wall to the living room) andscare Emily. She'll also stand in the corner of my roomsometimes, though that's chiefly Robert's domain.
My dorm is also haunted by it's namesake, Julia Stout. One nightI was doing laundry in the basement with my friend Rob (same guy)and he'd gone upstairs to go to the bathroom. I was folding myclothes when a woman's voice said "In the hallway."Being a curious if not overly intelligent person, I wandered overto the door leading to the hallway that leads to the stairs, justin time to see Rob turn the corner from the stairs to the hallway.Julia knocks on my friend Katy's window at night, making surethat she's behaving herself (adult dorm with 24 hour visitation.)
My best friend in high school,. Emily, her house is haunted too.But by a much darker force. Once as she was preparing to leavethe bathroom one morning, she looks down the hallway to her room(which is at the very end of the hall) to see a wrath approachingher. The hallway turned cold and it reached out to touch her. Sheshivered and it vanished. She also spent a splendid afternoonwith her parents talking to her as she turned white due to thehorrendous faces a spirit was making to her in a window in thefront room. My friend Jill has felt ice cold hands on her head inthat house and I've seen shadows and floating mist. Emily wasinstructed by a witch in New Orleans on how to exorcise a house, but she has yet to do it. She has since moved out. She's also hadexperiences in Utah when she moved out there to go to BYU butthat's another story, and a very shamanistic one at that.
Along the roads in my neighborhood I've seen the ghost of arunaway girl, huddled in a bush, the graveyard in our town is nota pleasant place either. My friends and I who are sensitive tothese things will not go to the back of the cemetery. Now,cemeteries are generally dead places, but they have the spiritsof the dead often residing there. In the back of the cemetery, something is killing off the spirits there. It feels dead, likenothing living or dead is there.
There is a dark presence with luminescent eyes that I've seenstanding in the trees beyond the graves. My friends and I believethat this is some demon, never human, that is slowly but surelydestroying the souls of every spirit in the cemetery. My friendKaty has already lost a ghost girl who became somewhat attatchedto her to whatever dark force lives in the back of the cemetery.I've had a ice cold tombstone burn my hand out there. There isalso a mausoleum with three angry women living in it who don'tlike me very much for knocking on their door once. A tree towardsthe front of the cemetery protects those resting near it, and itenvigorates anyone who stands under it, touching it's trunk.
Needless to say, my town is an interesting place to live. Youwouldn't expect it. But it is. Katy won't go in Emily's house,Emily won't go in our dorm anymore because she heard the voicesof several young women while she was there (it used to be an allgirls dorm before it went coed.) I'm dumb enough to risk mysafety to explore these things and I've always had a keeninterest in the paranormal. Urban legends are one of my passions.I'm glad to be able to add mine. Anyway, back to my dorm.
