Stewart Way Apartments

Sent in by Becky

My husband wasstationed in Ft.Stewart, Geogia--a military installation about 25miles away from Savannah and right outside a town calledHinesville. The waiting list for on-post housing is extremelylong, so we decided that we'd look for an apartment off post.Fortunately, we found one called Stewart Way Apartments about 3or 4 blocks from the main gate.

The odd manifestations started happening about 2 or 3 weeks afterwe first moved in our apartment and lasted until we moved out, which was about three months ago (we were there for three years). One night, I was sitting in the kitchen facing the laundry/utilityroom and I had to use the bathroom. Since the door to the laundryroom was open, I decided to close it before I went about mybusiness. I distinctly remember shutting it all the way until it"clicked" and proceeded to the bathroom. I was in therepretty quick and I headed back to the kitchen to finish reading amagazine, when I paused right by the laundry room door--it wasleft WIDE open. The back of the door was touching the wall behindit. I immediately froze and probably stared at that area for agood five minutes, trying to comprehend what I was just seeing. We didn't have a washer or dryer then, so nothing in therecould've jarred it open. I mentioned it to my husband, but hethought I forgot to close the door all the way.

The second occurance happened about a few months later in ourbedroom. My husband and I were both sound asleep when I heard asharp, loud knocking noise around the window. It began near thewindow (which was right by my head) and seemed to work its wayaround the walls in our bedroom; as if it was knocking its wayaround the house. It was pretty loud because I woke up, but I wasso dazed from my sleep, I thought it was one of my husband'ssoldiers, I told the sound, "He's sleeping right now, he'llbe at work in the morning." Amazingly, I fell back to sleep.Later on, I felt my husband get up and walk to the kitchen andhead back to bed. The following morning, he told me that he hearda bunch of noises (rappings) last night in our room, he got up tosearch the apartment. I told him I heard them too, but to thisday, we can't explain it. We've only heard them that one night.

One of the last "odd" incidents happened a few monthsbefore we moved out. I usually get up around five to get readyfor work, and one morning, I went to the kitchen and flipped thelight. On top of the kitchen table was a drinking glass smashedinto pieces; about four large pieces. I immediately blamed myhusband, who was still sleeping, and accused him of leaving theglass there for me to clean it up in the morning. Needless tosay, he didn't have a clue as to what I was nagging him about. Heasked my why would he leave a bunch of broken glass on the tableand not throw it away? He was right. Also, we never leave anyplates or unused glasses on the table. It's usually in the sinkwaiting to be washed or up in the cupboard. As I inspected theglass, I noticed the base was still intact and it was placed nearone of the corners of the table. The other peices were scatteredclose to and around it. There were no tiny pieces on the floor ortable. It looked as if someone had put their fist inside theglass and broke it that way (judging by how the pieces lay on thetable). It was just too wierd.

There were other wierd events in that apartment, but those thatI've mentioned just happen to stick out in my head. I've nevermentioned it to our landlady, but I'm sure there was someone orsomething in there!
