Staircase Ghost
The story I tellyou I assure you is true. It takes place in Greenview, WestVirgina, in the house my sister lived in for four years.
The house was very beautiful. Two stories with cedar sidingnestled on a large patch of land with a creek running alongside. You never would have guessed such a pretty house to be at the endof the raggedy holler called Big Branch but there it set. Mysister's dream house. Looking at it from the road, it seems sohumble and the house itself has no history but the land it setson has a disturbing one.
Back in the 70's, I'm not sure what part, a trailer burnt down.If you didn't already know, it takes less than two minutes for atrailer to entirely burn down. And in this case the family insideof it consisting of a man, his wife, and their baby didn't have achance to escape the flames and died together in their home.
After the incident, the field kind of turn into a sort ofjunkyard or garbage dump. Until in the early 90's when the ownercleared away the rubble in order to sell the property. Which waspurchased by my sister and her husband for them to build theirhouse on. They bulldozed over where the terrors had occured therest is history.
Many strange things occured in that house. I could go on forhours. But I will tell you about an acount of one of myexperiences. One where I could say I might have seen a ghost.
It was summer and I was staying with my sister at her house. Sheand I are very close and I stay with her a lot. At thisparticulat time, her twins were still small infants and I wasstaying to help her care for them.
I had woke up in the middle of the night and was extremelythirsty. I crawled out of bed and scooted on my butt down theunlit staircase. There was enough light from outside for me tosee though. I turned on the kitchen lighted and poured myself andgulped down a glass of cherry kool aid. Then I turned off thelight and went to the staircase to make my way up the stairs. Iput my hand on the third step to begin crawling up the steps whenI glanced up only to see a women in a long flowing white nightgown standing at the top of the steps. I thought it peculiar formy sister to be up in these wee hours of the morning so I said,
"What are you doing out of bed"?
But there was nothing but silence to answer. I looked up andthere was no one to be seen. Curious as to why my sister had notspoken to me headed towards her room and opened the door. I sawher laying in the bed with two of her three kids in a pinknightgown sound asleep. Still, I said, "What were you doingin the hallway"?
But she said nothing obviously because she was asleep. I suddenlybecame startled. If it wasn't her then who was it. I quicklyretaliated to myself that I must have been seeing things in mysleepy stupor. I went back to bed. Not saying I went back tosleep. I was tempted to go get in bed with my sister, as the roomI was sleeping faced the top of the staircase. From the bed Icould barely see it through the crack I had left in the door. Irolled over. I didn't want to see anymore. After a while I wentback to sleep. In the morning, I didn't tell my sister. Idismissed it. But in the back of my mind I know what I seen.
That was three years ago and the last time I stayed all nightwith my sister until just a few months ago.
