Scary Ghost Stories
Petey Spirit
Hi! Here's a reallyweird account of something that happened to me & my family.I'm only a 14 year old girl, so I apologize if I don't wordeverything too understandibly. Ok, my family, which is me(J), mymom-P,my dad-Sh, my sister-L-11yrs, & my brother-Mi-8yrs, wasvisiting our cousins, D(the mom) & St(the dad), their son T-14yrs,& their daughter M-12yrs, over the holidays in 1997. I needto tell you guys the "names" so you'll understand who'sdoing what. It was about 8:30 or 9:00 at night & we decidedto get out the ouija board for some excitement ( and beleive me,we did not know about all the serious stuff about ouija boards atthe time!!). We set up a table down in their basement. It startedout with me, my mom, & my cousin T on it. We were just askingstupid questions, not being really serious about it. T got bored& left. Then his mom D, who is my mom's 1st cousin, came down& got on with my mom. This time they asked if there were anyspirits with u! ! s tonight. The planchette (is that what it'scalled??) moved really quickly over to YES. We were all shockedbecause no one except for my mom had ever seen this happen before. They asked a few more questions, ones that I can't quite recall, then D got spooked & decided to get off. This is when me& my other cousin M got on with my mom. This is the way itwould be for the rest of the time, for some reason. We asked thespirit general questions like if it was a male or female, it'sname, the year he was born, & when & how he died. It'sreplies were that he is a male named Petey, then he said his lastname is the same as my family's!! He said that he was born in1912 and that he died when he was in his mid to late 20's in somesort of wreck. Petey seemed mad at the person responsible for hisdeath, but not at us, he said. When asking if there is any way wecan help him, he spelled out KILL. Now that, of couse, freaked usall out. We told him we could not do that & he ! ! must havebeen ok with that because he didn't object. We asked him somemore questions & found out that he supposedly lived in thesame city as my family does now & was a cousin of my paternalgrandpa.
This whole time, M frequently got really scared & removed herfingertips from the planchette. When she did this, however, Peteywould not answer our questions. He would resume when shegrudgingly got back on. Also, I had to ask all the questions forsome reason. If my mom were to ask something, there would be noresponse. Another thing, when an observer in the room would puttheir hands above the board, they claimed that it was noticablycold. My hands were like ice the whole time, but my body wasn'tcold at all. Weird, huh?
Finally, near the end of our little "session", we getto the really freaky part, at least to us anyway. M finally gotoff for good, so it was just me & my mom. We asked Petey ifthere were any other spirits with him. My mom & I both closedour eyes and looked up at the ceiling while my dad, a majorskeptic, jotted down the letters it landed on. We did this toassure each other & ourselves that we were not cheating. Wewere both just expecting a YES or a NO, but Petey went straightahead & spelled out the name of my fairly recently deceasedmaternal grandpa. My mom got tears in her eyes, & seeing hercry made me cry too. We asked if he had a message for us &the word PEACE was spelled out. It turns out that my maternalgrandma (also dead, of course) was there too. She gave us themessage OJ. We don't know if she meant orange juice or if she wassimply trying to spell out OK. Chances are, she just misspelledit. It was definitely very strange though.
Then, in the morning, the digital alarm clock/radio went off at 5:45.This was the day my family was going to pack up & head home.Everybody in the house swears they didn't set it, & it hadnever gone off at that time before. To this day we still do notknow how that happened. I did NOT move that thing at all thatnight, & neither did my mom or anyone else. It totallyfreaked me out, but then again, it was also pretty cool. Later, after we got home, my dad called his dad & asked him if heknew anyone named Petey. Petey supposedly has good memories ofhim. He didn't know of any Petey, but then again, my grandpa'salso in his 80's so he might not remember. We'll be getting afamily tree book soon, though, so maybe we'll discover somethingin that. Another interesting fact is we searched for livingpeople with our last name that are on an online service and founda Petey with our last name who lives in a town not far from mycousins' house where this all took place.
Could he be a relative of "Petey"? Who knows! Oh yeah,& our last name isn't a common one, so most likely everyonewith the same last name is related to us in some way.
All we know is that there was definitely something there with usthat night. As scary as it was, it was also a little comfortingas well. It was so real that it even made a believer out of myskeptical dad.
