Glowing Figures

Sent in by Dave

Even this is acompletely true story, I'm still not convinced I really saw whatI think I saw. The only reason I cling to this belief (despitenumerous attempts to talk myself out of it) is that the otherfriends I was with this night report the same thing. With that inmind, we proceed...

It was the Spring of 1993, and after attending a high schoolfootball game, two of my closest friends and I met up with someother girls and decided that for lack of a better idea, we wouldgo down to the cemetary which was rumored to have glowingtombstones. My friends and I had already seen the glowingtombstones, which were caused by a red neon light that reflectedoff the finish of the headstones. Truly, it was an eerie sight,to say the least. The stories spread about the cemetary hadvarious versions as to why the headstones shown with such a color.Variations included a young man killed by a gang burried underthe suspect tombstones, a young girl whose "suicide"was in question, etc. The usual stories that accompany strangephenomena. Since I had already seen the tombstones at least adozen times before, I thought it would be fun to take the girlsthere because they wouldn't know that we knew exactly what thetombstones were all about--so we thought.

When we pulled up to the fence on the southside of the cemetary--theusual spot, because it was the only angle from which the stonesglowed--we parked and got out. We stood for a second outside thefence, daring each other to go in. Of course no one dared. (Thetombstones always made me nervous anyway.) I dared my friend Donto hop the fence, knowing he had never been frightened ofanything in his life. He didn't say one word in reply. I lookedat him only to find him staring in to the cemetary, as pale asthe full moon above us (and it was full). I turned again to seewhat was drawing his attention and then I saw it: Around thetombstone that glowed red stood at least four or five figures inwhite. Each was so bright that we could almost see features--fromat least 100 yards away. The figures stood motionless, showing nomovement or even reflecting the red light of the tombstone. Donand I exchanged wide-eyed glances while sprinting for the truck. The others followed shortly after, although they hadn't seen whatwe had. They said they didn't believe us, except that later mybrother admitted seeing one of the ghostly figures later. Theclaimed they never saw anything, and we have rarely talked aboutit, simply because nobody really believes us.

I went back to the old haunting grounds with my girlfriendrecently, just to see if the tombstones still glow. The neonlight has has been removed and there is no trace of the glowingtombstones, but I still get nervous even driving by. I still tryto convince myself that it never really happened, but I know itdid.
