Old House

Sent in by Shanna

My name is Shannaand my grandmother just told me an interesting story thathappened to her a long time ago and I thought maybe I would shareit with you.

My grandmother and her family (Husband, Son, Daughter) were outon their motorcycles near the Rio Grande river near the border ofTexas and Mexico. Now during the summer the Rio Grande river isdried up and during the winter it had water in it....well, thistook place at summer time....so basically, it was dried up. Theygot off of their motorcycles and thought it would be cool to walkup the river since it was dried up and everything so all that wasthere was like little plots of water here and there so theystarted walking.

Soon on down the river they were in the woods and in mountains. They looked up on a hill in the woods and saw a old, old houseand thought it would be cool to go take a look at it...well, theywalked to it and there was 4 long poles with a top ontop of thepoles and under it was a old, old car so basically, it was like agarage....now this car was like those old timey looking cars theyhad a long, long time ago (I think you get my drift) and it hadplants growing all over it because it had been there for yearsand years without being moved.

Then they saw the house and went around it and the door wasopened. So, they went in. Now, we are talking way back then whenthey didn't even have bathrooms in a house. Well, anyway to getback to the story, there was furniture and in the 2 bedroomsthere were the man's clothes hung up and ready to wear and in thekitchen there was food. Now, you would think someone lived here...butno one did. There was the daily paper on the table and a old, oldstove and they didn't have a refrigerator because this is an oldhouse and they didn't have those kind of things back then.

Well, the food looked fresh...but was old. This was a old, abandoned house. There was trees growing all over it andeverything. The house looked like one of those old, logged cabinsback in the old times. My grandma then started feeling a weirdfeeling like they better get out of there or something is goingto happen. It looked like someone had lived there...but you couldtell no one did...because it was abandoned and you could tellthat.

So they left everything the way it was and they didn't want totake anything because they wouldn't feel right because apparentlythis house had belonged to someone back a long time ago. Theystarted walking back down the river and there was some peopledown there and they asked them about the old house and they said,A long time ago, the indians believed that when someone died theywere to leave everything the way it was...the furniture theclothes...Everything and NO ONE was to go in the houses ordisturb them...and my grandmother did. So someone could have diedthere or could have been taken out of their house and killed oranything could have happened...but that house was definitlyabandoned. The old car was still under the tin roof of the little4 pole garage. Everything was just the same. There were no roadsor anything to connect the house to any kind of street or dirtpath

She is not sure if the house is still there today, but it wasthere back in the 70s because that it when they went to the house. If I could go re-visit the house....I would. I thought the storywas interesting so I thought I would share it with people.
