Washing Machine

Sent in by Kristine

About three and ahalf years ago, my now husband and I were about four weeks awayfrom getting married. We were living in a condo in Atlanta. Oneafternoon, we were doing laundry when I noticed that the washingmachine had stopped. I went to check and the lid was up. Ifigured that my husband, who alwyas added things to a load afterit started had simply forgotten to put the lid down. When Iquestioned him, he said he thought he had but couldn't reallyremember. We didn't think anymore about it until it happenedagain about a week or so later. I thought that perhaps the loadwas unbalanced and the machine simply stopped automatically. So Ichecked the manual -- no mention. I also called the manufacturerwho told me that my model didn't have that option.

Well, I still didn't think very much about it until the daybefore we were to leave to drive to D.C. where we were going tobe married. I was home by myself and did a quick load of laundry.I was standing in my kitchen where I had a very clear view of themachine. All of the sudden th machine stopped. I looked and sawthe lid open. Believe me, I got chills running up and down myback.

I walked to the machine and said in a somewhat calm voice, "I'msorry that I am doing a mixed load -- I know it isn't the correctway to do laundry but... I'll try not to do it in the future."I closed the machine and finished the load I was doing. I figuredthat it was my mother who had died 20 odd years ago, making surethat everything went smoothly. During the next year that we livedthere, we never again had trouble with the washer.

Anyone else have any similar experience before a major occaison?
