True Ghost Experiences
Sybil's Message
In the late 1940's, my grandmother was newly married and living in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. She lived in a tenement building, not far from her sister Sybil's home in the same city. My grandmother was 27 years old when Sybil died at age 32 from a blood clot to the heart. Sybil had recently undergone surgery and was at home recuperating when the blood clot loosened and stopped her heart. A neighbor came running to my grandmother's apartment to tell her that her sister had just died. Tragically, Sybil left behind a husband and two young boys.
A few days after the funeral, my grandmother was sleeping in her bed when she suddenly woke up. She saw her sister, Sybil, sitting on the bed. My grandmother said Sybil looked very upset and was desperately trying to speak to her. Understandably, my grandmother was shocked and frightened and said out loud to Sybil, "No, you can't talk to me now. You died. You can't talk to me." Sybil's face became very sad and then she disappeared.
My grandmother told me this story when I was 14 (I'm 31 now). It always bothered Nanny that Sybil appeared to be so distraught. Nanny has no idea what it could have been that her sister wanted to tell her. Sybil, as far as we know, never appeared to anyone else in the family. Nanny's family lost track of Sybil's husband and young sons long ago. Perhaps Sybil's attempted message had something to do with her sons? Or was she trying to apologize for something that might have happened when they were children growing up in Brewer, Maine? We will never know.
My beloved grandmother died of heart failure in her home nearly two years ago at age 75. I live alone in her home now and have never been "visited" by her. She knows that it would frighten me, just like Sybil frightened her. My aunt, however, sensed my grandmother's presence in the house when I was away on vacation. When my aunt told me that, I admit I was a little uneasy at first; however, I know without a doubt that Nanny would never do anything to frighten me, so I have no fear of living here. God bless you Nan.
