Ghost Stories
Cemetery Push
I`m not saying that I encountered a ghost. I did however experience something I cannot explain. I hope that readers of this tale will e-mail me and let me know their opinions, (serious or not). This took place in July of 2000.
I live in Ireland. An old country, with a bloody history of murder, war, death and all the usual ingredients for a nice juicy haunting. Never mind stories of leprechauns, banshees and such, but stories of true evil and tragedy.
Due to this, if one is walking down a quiet country lane at night, alone, listening to the sound of wind in the trees and looking into the woods where there is nothing but darkness after the first line of trees, your mind tends to play tricks on you. Thus, I`m not saying I encountered a ghost.
I was walking past Kerrypike cemetery in county Cork. There are numerous documented accounts of hangings taking place in this area during the Irish civil war. This knowledge and the fact that it was 12:30 at night did not set my mind at ease but I was nearly home so I didn't feel too much like a frightened child. The worst part of this road occurs at a bend that is just past the graveyard. Walking past this I felt a chill at the back of my neck. Just like in the movies my hair stood up at the back of my neck. I felt genuinely nauseous I was so scared so I increased my walking pace..And then I was pushed!
I felt a hard shove to my shoulders and fell to the ground,(screaming like a girl may I add). I looked behind me expecting to see my every nightmare in one set of eyes. There was nothing there. The road, woods and cemetery were empty. I laughed at myself and walked on cursing myself for being so foolish. As far as I was concerned I had tripped, and my mind was referring back to every horror film I had ever watched. Ah well, there are no such thing as ghosts is there?
I was pushed to the ground again!
I reckon that I broke the world land speed record that night, along with the world record for cowardice. It was probably my own clumsiness in conjunction with my hyper imagination. It could have been kids messing but it was reasonably bright due to the moon being out. I know one thing is for sure...I`m glad I didn`t look behind me the second time!
