Short Ghost Stories
Somer's Ghost
I have always been interested in ghosts and such, but was always a little skeptical. I am still not sure if my experience was a ghost, a guardian angel, or a figment of my overactive imagination, but here goes.
It started the summer before my freshman year of high school. My family and I were moving to a new home and had been working all day. They went fishing on a pond on our new land and a friend and I went back to the house to use the bathroom. Since we were working on the house, the downstairs (that portion of the house is underground) did not have electricity yet. It was very dark so I went to the door on the outside to let in some light. We heard a noise, like someone walking around and messing with things, so we ran to get my parents. When they came back there was nothing there, but the other leading out of the other side of the house was opened.
The next strange thing happened a few weeks after we movied in. I had been writing letters to my friends and had put the address book beside my bed. The next morning it was gone. We looked for days and didn't find it, then it was laying on my chest one morning when I woke up. After that there were a lot of strange things that happened, such as footsteps, and a table that was moved to the middle of the floor during the night. My parents laughed it off and called it Somer's ghost, because I was always the one to find the table or complain of the noises.
The strangest of all things happened my senior year of high school. I was alone in the house with only the family dog, Baby. It was almost dark and I had the television on because I was scared to be alone without noise. Baby jumped off my lap and ran to the stairs where he was barking and growling. I turned the tv off and walked to the steps. I heard a music box of mine playing. Then there was this loud voice that sounded like thunder coming from the steps. Baby whimpered and ran back to the couch. I turned on the lights and didn't go down stairs until my parents and sisters came back and went down. (My sisters, 18 & 10 sitll won't go down by theirselves!)
The strangest thing of all is that once I moved the noises and activities stopped at their house. When I got married my husband and I movied into a small apartment in Ada, Oklahoma. He worked until late and I would feel as if I wasn't alone at night while he was gone. I would feel like someone was watching me. I would also see a shadow of a man sitting on our bed when I would glance in there. I also woke up a lot and saw this man standing at the foot of the bed, but when I would wake my husband up it would be gone. Things were also missing and found in strange places.
The ghost seemed to follow up when we moved in with his parents in Texas. I would hear footsteps upstairs when everyone was gone to work. Now we live in a house a couple of towns over from his parents and I still feel as though someone is there. My dog and cats sense it too.
I have seen someone out of the corner of my eye and turn around and no one is there. My husband has also turned around ask what I said when I wasn't talking and the tv was off.
It gets stranger. When I went back to Oklahome last month with my parents, we started to hear strange noises and my cats and their dog would run and hide for no reason. They said that they had not had anything like this happen since I lived there and I must have brought my ghost back. The thing is, my husband, who joined me later and brought our dog, said our dog, Andy, had been so good and hadn't woke him up barking once since I have been gone. Now that we are back, he wakes me up three or four times a night barking at the wall. I have even felt as though someone were in the car with me at night when I was obviously alone.
I don't know for sure if this is a ghost or not, but it is strange. I do not feel threatened by the presence and I even feel comforted by it at times. I just don't know who or what it is and it makes me nervous. My husband thinks I am crazy, what do you think? How do I get rid of it?
