Mother's Message
My mom died verysuddenly at the age of 50 in 1981. I had recently remarried andmoved to another state and was feeling very guilty that I hadmoved away and taken her only grandchild with me. The night ofthe funeral, I let my five year old son sleep with me fearing hewould be upset; he was very close to my mom. The sound of hisvoice in the middle of the night woke me up. He was carrying on aone-sided conversation with my mom. I heard him say,"Will Iever see you again, mama?" He appeared to still be asleep.Funeral being over, I left my hometown and returned to myeveryday life. About 2 months later, I got an hysterical phonecall a 3 a.m. from my ex-husband. H e could hardly talk he was soupset. Since he and I had been married for some years he and mymom had grown close. His new wife(being the jealous type)wouldnot allow him to go to the funeral or visitation of my mom. Hesaid that he was up late watching TV that night when he heard aknock on the door.
He answered the door and there was a group of ladies standing onhis porch. One lady in the front asked him if he knew where"Mackie" lived. He replied that he knew of no one inthe nerighborhood with that name. Then he said, a voice from theback said, "can I come in?" My ex said,"no youcan't come in, I don't even know you!" At this time thewoman from the back stepped forward and said,"yes you do,Rick, it's me Jo Ann", and there stood my mother!!!!! Now Iwas very curious at this point because my mother's very bestfriend during her high school years was called "Mackie"and she had died very young having her first child. My ex didn'tknow this.
So I asked him what mom looked like and he described everythingwe had buried her in, in great detail right down to the jewelryshe had on. Remember, he had not went to the visitation orfuneral!!!! His description of how my mother looked when weburied her was 100% accurate. I at first had thought he had fall!! en asleep watching TV and dreamed the whole thing, but afterspeaking to his wife, I know for sure that he had a visit from mymom. Not only because of the description, but because his wifetold me that she woke up hearing the door slam. She said she gotup and not only found Rick wide awake and very upset, but thedoor had not latched and was still partially open. After that, Iwas totally at peace with the loss of my mom. No more dreamsabout betraying her. I knew she was still around in the hereafterand I think she wanted to let me know that. Maybe she is stilllooking for Mackie or maybe Macking was one of the other ladiesthere and my mom just used that as a way to let me know it wasall real. She had told me the story about her friend Mackie andher death. It was a very healing experience for me.
