Grandfather's Ghost
This story is trueand happened very recently.
It involves my Grandfather who died two years ago. He didn't havea great relationship with his sons but he was a wonderfulgrandfather. Shortly after he died, he began waking my Dad up atnight by calling his name. This continued for a few months andthen he started grabbing his leg while he was asleep. I shouldadd that my Dad was a complete skeptic until this startedhappening.
My Dad had a clock which had belonged to my Grandfather and itwould stop and start whenever there was anything major happeningin the family. These things were pretty subtle at first, subtleenough for us to pass them off as imagination.
I hit a pretty rough period and while I was at my lowest, strangethings started happening. Firstly, after an argument with myhusband, I was very wound up and I walked into the loungeroomwhich was pitch black because we had shut up for the night andthe television came on. There was no-one in the room, thechildren were asleep and my husband was in the shower. The verynext day my husband received a phone call asking him to beginwork down south (we were in the North West) near where my Dadlived and in the very same town my Grandfather had lived. We werevery unhappy living where we were so this seemed like a miracleto us.
Because of the nature of the work there was very littleaccommodation, we were at our wits end, we had to live somewhere.Shortly after the phone call I was sitting at my computer onenight when I felt a cold breeze on my neck. I was feeling reallytense and this breeze relaxed me, the air conditioner was off andthe house was locked up tight, the next day we spoke to the realestate lady about accommodation and she had found us a house, itwas the VERY same house my grandfather had lived in 40 years ago!!!
We moved down and things kept happening, somebody grabbed mewhile I was having a shower one day, the clock kept stopping andstarting, the lamps in my Dad's house would turn off and on andmy Dad's girlfriend saw large shadows walking down their hallwayand I would often see shadows out of the corner of my eye. Ishould add that the clock always seemed to stop when there wassomething happening at our house and start again when it washappening at my Dad's house.
One night I went to sleep a little upset, I hadn't heard from myDad in ages, even though we lived close and I was feeling veryneglected. I dreamt there was someone in my room (a man) leaningover me. When I tried to wake my husband, he wouldn't stir andthis man was breathing in my ear. I woke up terrified and thebreathing continued for a couple of seconds after I awoke. Therewas no-one in the room except my sleeping husband. The next day,my Dad called!
Since then things have stopped happening, the shadows have goneand sadly, I feel Grandad has gone too! It was a nice feelingbeing looked after like that but I hope he has found peace atlast. I would still like to know why he stuck around, was itbecause he knew we needed him?
I have heard that people often stick around for a little whileafter they die, just to make sure the people they loved are okayand after a while they just fade away.
