Mirror Buzz
I would like toknow if anyone has any information or stories about "haunted"items such as furniture... cases where the unusual activity seemsto be centred on a particular object rather than a place.
The reason for my interest is an unusual experience I had manyyears ago with an old mirror. When I was in college I shared anapartment with two other girls. We furnished it with bits andpieces that we all brought with us. One of the items contributedby one of my roommates was an old mirror that looked like it hadonce been part of a dresser. We hung it on the wall of our diningarea, next to the table.
Bear with me while I describe the apartment a little. At thenorth end of the apartment was the dining/livingroom area with akitchen in an alcove off the livingroom. Leading from the diningarea was a hallway with three bedrooms on the left, a bathroom atthe end of the hallway and another half-bathroom off the rightside of the hallway.
My roommate who occupied the bedroom at the far end of thehallway was a fiend for warmth; the room had its own thermostatand she always had it cranked up. Consequently our cat alwaysslept in that room. It was also known that she (the roommate, notthe cat) never, ever left her window open.
As you could expect in a household comprised of three youngwomen, time in front of a mirror was much in demand. I noticedone night when we were all getting ready to go out that we wouldall wait for our turn in one of the bathrooms rather than use themirror in the dining room. When I thought about it I realizedthat we had always done that. And I further realized that theidea of standing in front of that mirror made me feeluncomfortable.
Well one night my two roommates were out and I was home alone. Iwas sitting at the dining room table reading a book. Suddenly Iheard the sound of the window in the far bedroom slamming. Iwould have assumed it was a window falling shut by itself, exceptthat was the room where the window was never left open.
That startled me, then I heard, from the vicinity of the windowin the bedroom a sort of "sizzling" sound start outalong the wall. It sounded either like a sizzle or like somethinglike a nail being dragged along the wall. It was very audible. Ilistened to it travel around the three walls of that bedroom thenheard it come out the bedroom door, travel right into the mainbathroom, around those three walls, come out the bathroom dooragain, travel down the hallway towards me, pausing to travelaround the three walls of the small bathroom, back out, andaround the hallway corner into the room in which I was sitting.
Needless to say my eyes were glued to the wall at about waistheight where the sound seemed to be. I saw nothing. But Isuddenly absolutely knew what was going to happen. The soundtraveled around the corner and along the wall directly behind me(I twisted around in my seat to watch the spot) and then stopped, directly under the old mirror to my right.
Our cat came tearing down the hallway from the bedroom where thesound originated, just like she'd "seen a ghost". Ipicked her up and went and looked in the bedroom to see if shehad maybe knocked something over that would have caused theoriginal slamming sound, but couldn't see anything like that. Thewindow, as it always was, was shut.
So I turned the TV on loud and all the lights on.
I didn't mention it to my roommates for awhile. Later one of themwas telling me she thought there was a strange feeling in theapartment, like we had a ghost, and I said, "I know. It's inthe mirror." That freaked her out so I told her the storythen.
I moved out some time later and I really don't know what happenedto the mirror after that.
That's the story. I'm just curious to know if anyone has had anysimilar experiences with objects.
