Babysitter Story
Ever since my aunthad told me ghost stories from the barn she worked at i have beenfacinated by the paranormal but nothing particularly frighteninghad ever happend to me, that is until i took a certianbabysitting job a few blocks down from me.When i first enteredthe old stucco mansion i felt that there was something a bitstrange about the place but i let it slide. The home itself waslovely and warm in apperance. the children were delightful, twoblonde little girls aged 16months and 4. The first few weeks werefine without any major occerances beyond the occasional strangebehavior of the dog. She would bark at air and growl at walls andsome times she would cower in a corner as though someone orsomething were threatening her. I basically ignored it though, but something in the back of my mind wouldnt let me be at peacein the house. After about a month or so the parents of the girlsasked if that while they were away i would like to watch afterthe dog, collect there mail and check on the house daily and bepaid in the prosses. I agreed thinking it would be easy money, little did i know how much effort it would take.
The first visitwent smoothly and nothing happend but the secound was a bitunnerving. I returned to the house after walking the dog and wentindoors for a drink. it was a very warm may day and i decided toopen up the windows to air out the place. after i swept the floorand brought in the mail i sat down to watch some tv while the dogran around outside. suddenly the tv turned off, perplexed i gotup and turned it back on. As i sat down i became aware thatsomeone was watching me from the back stairs. The back stairs hadalways scared the pants off me anyway so you can imagine thatthis was terrifying. As i got up to leave i heard a loud thud andbanging on the stairs and the voice of a small child giggle.Being the catholic i was raised as i began to scream the Lordsprayer and ran out as fast as i could leaving the door open andthe dog to run amuc. The run home is a blur and i dont reallyremember any thing until my mom agreed to walk back with me tocheck things out. At this point i dont think she fully believedwhat i heard was a ghost but this would change in time. We foundnothing as you can ecspect and i with my mothers help managed toconvince myself that i had imagined the whole thing.
The following day after a night to sleep on things i felt alot better and was ableto go through my routine without to much worry. Once again ireturned to the house with the dog and went about the usual runof things. Once agian i let the dog out and got myself a coke outof the fridge. I had read somewhere once that if you ecspect aghost it wont apear so i felt a little more at ease, however thisis not true. Once again the load thuds and laughter, i wasscarred like hell but i forced myself to walk over to the backhall. Although it was a bright day the hallway was dark and cold."Hello..." i thought maybe some one had snuck into thehouse. my ansewer was the sound of footsteps running towards me.This time i tried to stay calm but i still practically had aheart attack letting int he dog and locking up.
The following daythe family i worked for returned from ther vacation. I told themit all went great and took my money and went home. When theycalled that evening to ask if i could sit the that Friday night iagreed but asked if i could bring a friend. I wasnt about to stopworking for them they paid extremely well. so that Fri. i wentover with a good friend of mine who witnessed all the activity ofthat evening. After i put the girls to bed me and my friend satdown to watch a movie she had brought over. The tv promptly shutoff and i began to get worried. Maureen as well (that was thegirls name) was looking a bit creeped out. I hadent told herabout the past experiences i had had and i wasnt about to forfear she would leave me alone in the house. I began to get thatawful "being watched" feeling again and that wasfollowed by the low giggle this time more sinister. Maureen burstinto tears and called her mother to pick her up right away. Shesaid she felt bad but she jus! ! t couldnt stand it in the houseany longer. After she left i tried to calm down but i knew thingswere at a climax. the rain which had been falling steadly for anhour now got worse and the oldest girl asked if i would sleepnext to her becouse she was frightend. I asked her of what andshe said " mommy says its just the pipes but me and Ally*know its not." I told her to not worry and tucked her in. Idrifted into a fitful sleep. I woke at about 11pm or so soaked insweat with the feeling that there was someone coming. I opend myeyes and sat upright. Across from me there was a mirror and inthe mirrors reflection there was some one standing next to me. Ilooked next to the bed and there was no one there yet when ilokked in the mirror there definitly was. Presently the girl wokeup and the image disapeared. But the terror was not over yet, shewas having trouble breathing and could not talk, i calle herparents and she calmed down. When they got home i told them shehad a fe! ! ver and hurried home.
The following weeki agreed to sit for them one more time ( im a pig-headed girl )and went over around 6o'clock. As you can imagine after the girlswere put to bed the tv pulled its warning trick and the activitystarted full force again. I could hear over the baby moniter thatAlly* was crying but the monitor was not plugged in and when ichecked Ally* was fast asleep. When i got down stairs i couldhere foot steps and furniture being dragged on the top floor. Icalled my mother and she came right over. She as well heard thenoises and was scared stiff. She stayed with me until the parentsgot home and informed them i would no longer babysit for them. Nodoubt they were perplexed but to this day i refuse to go intothere home.
