hominophobia

hominophobia meaning, symptoms & treatment

Anna aged 18, is afraid to leave her house for fear that she will encounter a man. What is this fear all about?. I, Donnabelle would like to share some information on Hominophobia.

What is Hominophobia?
Hominophobia aka Androphobia and Arrhenphobia is the fear of men. Like all other phobias it is basically irrational, intense, and persistent. It is a common form of an anxiety disorder. This takes place when whatever we are afraid of (as in this phobia it is men) gets so big that it is beyond our control and as a result it begins to interfere with our everyday life.

Symptoms:
As seen in most phobias Hominophobia also has similar symptoms.

1. Shortness of breath.

2. Extreme anxiety.

3. Irregular heartbeat.

4. Dry mouth.

5. Inability to articulate words or sentences.

6. Rapid breathing.

7. Sweating.

8. Nausea.

9.The most severe case of hominophobia,  a person may  be hesitant to leave their house for fear that they will encounter a man.

Causes:
The causes of hominophobia are extremely varied, and this is the case with most phobias.

1. It is usually related back to a traumatic event, or series of events, experienced by a person in his/ her very young childhood.

2. Victims of rape or other sexual or physical abuse may also suffer from Hominophobia.

Treatment:
1.Psychoanalysis .

2.A complex combination of prescription drugs may be given.

3. Hypnosis.

4. Dream analysis.

5. Hypnotherapy which is a type of therapy by which a person, with the assistance of a trained specialist, has his/her subconscious mind opened to suggestion for the purpose of changing one or more behavior patterns. When the subconscious is spoken to directly, it may be possible to find the issue triggering their phobia and introduce new ideas and positive suggestions. These positive suggestions may then be used to help make the changes one desires.

One needs to remember that if drugs are taken it cannot get to the root of this or any phobia. A trained therapist can help a person overcome the subject of their fear, and in the process the drugs become less and less necessary and the person is usually able to be completely get rid of them.

Some other tips:
1.If we want to face and overcome our fears we should always take a positive approach.

2.We need to be mentally ready and in control at all times.

3. We need to learn about our self and your phobia. And so attending a seminar would be good. It can be a good experience.

4.Find ways in which we can talk about our fears.

5.It is always good to get assistance and feedback on our fears and thus we should surround our self with positive and supportive people that we trust and who came honest with us. Order books or subscribe to magazines that provide you with information regarding your phobia or how to overcome it.

6.However we should not dwell on our phobias and fears too much or it might make it worse.

Let’s remember that we can work through our fears. It may take time but it is NOT IMPOSSIBLE. And if you can relate with Anna and associate with this fear I hope some of the above material will help you understand what to do as you seek help to overcome your fear and in the process your everyday life can be normal again.
