R.D. National College is one of the best colleges for Arts & Science streams in Mumbai. The college also has commerce stream. There are over 2500 students in National college with a wide variety of interests and hobbies. Studies do keep most of the science students busy so science students rarely win inter-college festivals or contests as they never participate. However the mass media, arts & commerce students of both junior & degree college regularly participate in and outside college in events, shows, festivals, etc.
National college is located in Bandra West right opposite Linking Road on the Western Railway. The college has a very good basketball court & foyer located in the center of all college wings where students can sit along the walls studying or chatting with their friends.
The college has an extensive library with over 5000 books related to Physics, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Mass Media and Arts subjects but science stream subject books predominate. National college has one of the worst canteens in Mumbai Colleges. The canteen serves economical but stale snacks in south indian, chinese and fast food.
Students of National college come mainly from the Sindhi community living in Dadar, Wadala, Santacruz East, Borivili, Shivaji Park, Vasai, Bandra East, Virar, Ghatkopar, Chembur, Lower Parel, Sion, Bombay Central, Andheri, Vile Parle, Khar, etc.
The classrooms are many in National College and the buildings are well maintained and kept clean by hard working college staff. You get Railway Pass Students discount from the Maharashtra Government for all students holding an ID Card for this college.
The teachers of National college are not the most highly qualified in Mumbai with few years of experience. The principal of Nationals is Mrs Anand who has a good reputation but runs the college purely as a business rather than an educational angle. The college also has post-graduation degree & diploma courses in Science and Arts. The outside area has plenty of restaurants including McDonald's, roadside shopping & malls, cinemas & happening joints for the students to go to. Perhaps that is why National College consistently has the least number of students attending college every year.
